Veteran actress Sally Kirkland has been forced to pull out of a string of projects after learning she won't be able to walk for three months following a stage fall at the inaugural Studio City Film Festival in California.

The Sting star is currently recovering at St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank after dislocating her ankle and breaking her foot in two places at the weekend (10Feb13).

Speaking from her hospital bed to online newspaper the Sherman Oaks Patch on Wednesday (13Feb13), the 71-year-old JFK star has revealed she's in too much pain to start physiotherapy.

She says, "I won't be able to walk for three months (and) I've had to cancel four projects, but life happens.

"I broke the tibia and fibia and a bone on the right side of my ankle and a bone of the left side... so they (doctors) now have a plate with screws and then a long screw holding the two bones together."

And recalling her stage fall after accepting a Best Actress Award for her role in short film Posey, in which she portrays an Alzheimer's sufferer, Kirkland adds, "It was very dark in the theatre and when I stepped off the stage and fell to the floor there was no lighting on the steps."
