Ryan Reynolds admits his debilitating fear of flying makes him ''lose'' all his confidence on airplanes and he becomes a nervous wreck.
Ryan Reynolds loses all his confidence on airplanes.
The 'R.I.P.D.' actor - who has previously admitted to his fear of flying - ''hates'' having to jet across the world for his movie career and becomes extremely nervous in the air.
He said: ''I'm a terrible, terrible flier. I lose all my confidence when I'm on a plane. I hate it, hate it so much.''
The 36-year-old hunk - who is married to actress Blake Lively - claims a scary skydiving mishap when he was a teenager left him with his debilitating plane phobia, and despite playing a jet pilot in 2011 blockbuster 'The Green Lantern', he has still yet to overcome his fears.
In an interview on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon', he explained: ''I'm a little skittish with the heights, but mostly just the airplanes.
''When I was young, 19 years old, I was with friends of mine and we were trying to get our skydiving licence. On my 13th jump - lucky number 13 - my shoot opened; the risers broke and the thing opened kind of vertically, flapping in the wind and not really slowing me down at all. It was just making me spin out of control and almost unconscious. Not fun!
''I remember I was terrified to pull away and to break away and pull my reserve shoot, because in my idiotic 19-year-old mind I was like, 'Then I'll have no more shoots left.' Thankfully, I came to my senses, broke away, and pulled my reserve shoot. You can't steer the reserve shoot because its round, so I landed seven or eight miles away from the actual drop zone and I was sure I was going to land in power lines or something.''
Although he survived, Ryan admits the traumatic experience would have been an incredibly unlucky way to die.
He quipped: ''What a way to go - you survive a grand malfunction skydiving only to burn to death on some guy's telephone line!''
