Ryan Phillippe is always on the lookout for photographers.

The 36-year-old actor has admitted that he "tends to flinch or look over his shoulder" for paparazzi since his highly publicised divorce from actress Reese Witherspoon in 2006.

He said: "Every actor and celebrity is different, but personally for me, over the years, because of negative things which have come out from those situations, I tend to flinch or look over my shoulder for cameras."

The 'Cruel Intentions' star also revealed he had to think carefully about accepting his latest role playing real-life war photographer Greg Marinovich in 'Bang-Bang Club' because of his "personal resistance" to the profession.

He explained: "Well it wasn't so much that I had reservations of taking the part, because I loved The Script and I loved the story, but I just had to get over my own personal resistance of what photographers meant to me."

However, taking on the role eventually helped Ryan to realise that some photographers have an important role in raising awareness of world issues such as "war and struggle".

He added: "I think then I found a real appreciation for the potential impact of the job."
