Ryan Gosling took his mother as his date to the premiere of 'Gangster Squad'.

The Hollywood heartthrob - who joined his co-stars Emma Stone, Sean Penn and Josh Brolin at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday (07.01.13) - might be loved-up with 'Holy Motors' beauty Eva Mendes, but he opted to take his mother Donna to the star-studded event instead.

Ryan did reveal, however, that his mum was dressed head-to-toe in his girlfriend's clothes for the special occasion.

He revealed to E! News: ''My mother's wearing all my girlfriend's clothes,'' with Donna chipping in: ''I'm wearing Eva Mendes. She let me raid her closet.''

Ryan, 32, is close to his high-school teacher mother after she divorced his father Thomas when he and his sister Mandi were children.

As part of his role as Los Angeles Police Detective Jerry Wooters in the film, whose mission is to catch a notorious group of East Coast Mafia gangsters, Ryan had to wear an uncomfortable wool suit.

He recently revealed he found the vintage outfit so irritating and itchy that he channelled his anger at getting a rash into a more realistic portrayal of the cop.

Ryan joked: ''The wool was quite itchy, so I had a rash. I channelled that irritation into my hatred for the gangsters.''

Josh Brolin also complained about the material of the costumes, describing them as ''itchy and tight.''
