Time to crack the DVD cabinet open. Ryan Gosling has announced that he’s planning on taking a break from acting. Don’t get too down-heartened though, Gosling fans, because it doesn’t sound like he’s giving up entirely. In fact, if a recent interview is to be believed, it’s all for the greater good, as he’s planning on reassessing his career and is simply taking a break in order to gain a bit of perspective and come back an even better actor and not risk flushing his career down the metaphorical lavatory.

The Sun quotes Ryan as saying “I've been doing (acting) it too much. I've lost perspective on what I'm doing. “I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does." We don’t, of course, but you know, it’s nice of him to be thinking about us. The more opportunities I'm given, the more I learn about how easy it is to (f***) it up. You fight for freedom and then you get it, and then you have enough rope to hang yourself. It's like trying to exercise some restraint because I do have so much freedom."

So there you have it folks, you had better savour Gosling’s forthcoming releases, The Place Beyond The Pines, Only God Forgives and the Terrence Malick movie he’s working on because there could be a real long gap, after that.
