Rap mogul Russell Simmons has burst back onto the music scene with a triumphant return to Def Jam RECORDS.

Simmons, who created the record company with Rick Rubin in 1984 and sold it in 1999 for $100 million (GBP53 million), will head up RUSSELL SIMMONS MUSIC GROUP - a joint venture with ISLAND RECORDS and Def Jam.

The 47-year-old music boss says, "This is a tremendous blessing to come back to work at this company."

The influential New York label was famed for championing hip-hop giants such as RUN-DMC, THE Beastie Boys and Public Enemy.
