Russell Crowe has thrown the Dorchester Collection hotel group a lifeline as celebrities continue to back a boycott of the Sultan of Brunei's luxury sites.
Stars have turned their backs on places like the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles over the Sultan's new anti-gay legislation back home - and they're urging fans to do the same.
Sharon Osbourne, Stephen Fry and Sir Richard Branson are among the high-profile celebrities who are supporting the boycott, and R&B icon Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds reportedly scrapped his wedding at Dorchester Collection pad the Hotel Bel-Air on Saturday (17May14) over the Sultan's anti-gay laws, and Kim Kardashian moved her bridal shower from the Beverly Hills Hotel.
But Crowe thinks the boycott is bad idea - in a tweet on Monday (19May14) he wrote, "I don't agree with the boycotting of Dorchester Collection hotels. It only hurts the hard working staff who I consider friends."
Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons recently following the introduction of proposed new laws in Brunei calling for Muslims caught performing homosexual acts to be stoned to death.
