GLADIATOR star Russell Crowe has agreed to sponsor a rugby league tournament for a club he recently saved from extinction.

The Australian hunk will pay $15,000 (GBP6,000) for a seven-a-side competition for his local side, the ORORA CALLEY AXEMAN, who only exist because the actor organised a fundraising match between them and his favourite professional side, South SYDNEY RABBITOHS.

Crowe will attend the tournament in January (05) and hopes his patronage will improve sponsorship opportunities and press coverage of the flailing team.
