British comic Russell Brand saw the funny side of his immigration woes in Japan over the weekend (21-22May11) by 'Tweeting' jokes throughout his detention.
The funnyman jetted into the country to accompany his pop star wife Katy Perry on the Japanese leg of her ongoing world tour, but he was allegedly held by immigration officials and subsequently deported due to his previous criminal convictions.
Perry alerted the world to her husband's dilemma by writing in a post on Twitter.com, "My husband just got deported from Japan. I am so sad. I brought him all this way to show him my favorite place... It was for priors from over 10 years ago!"
Brand also opened up about his situation on the social networking site, posting pictures of himself while in custody and making jokes about escaping.
He wrote, "Planning escape from Japanese custody. It's bloody hard to dig a tunnel with a chopstick... Stockholm syndrome kicking in. Just asked my guard out for (vegetarian) sushi. He giggled... Alcatraz! Shawshank Redemption! And now this! Ah, sweet blue bird of freedom!..."
