Russell Brand has been announced as the host of this year's MTV Movie Awards, and the British comedian has promised an action-packed show. Brand, 36, will helm the Hollywood show live from the Gibson Amphitheatre on Sunday, June 3, 2012, reports Mtv News.
The star of the forthcoming movie 'Rock of Ages' will be a popular choice with fans, though his irreverent and cheeky brand of humour took a darker turn this week when he ripped into a heckler who yelled out his ex-wife Katy Perry's name at a live gig in Atlanta. The comedian had the house lights turned on the man, before telling the crowd, "I want to see what this person looks like.Turn the lights on for me because I want to achieve some sort of confirmation", before adding, "I thought this guy's confident probably because he's incredibly handsome, but look at you.You look like someone that's fallen off the outside of a church". Brand split from the American pop singer in 2011 following a marriage that lasted just 14 months - she is now said to be dating the Florence and the Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd.
Executive producer of the Mtv Movie Awards Jesse Ignjatovic was delighted with Brand joining the show, saying, "First of all, I think Russell's the perfect host for this show. He's a movie star. He's probably one of the most brilliant stand-ups that I've seen in his time, and he's a rock star". This year's ceremony will be mainly contested by Lionsgate blockbuster 'The Hunger Games' and comedy smash 'Bridesmaids', which both hold eight nominations each. Celebrities confirmed to be presenting awards include Charlize Theron, Mila Kunis and MARK WAHLBERG.
