Russell Brand, the comedian turned revolutionary whose film The Emperor's New Clothes offers an alternative to mainstream politics. He says he will not be voting at the upcoming General Election. However, Brand described the Green Party as "fantastic."

In a video uploaded by Total Politics, Brand said: "I believe in absolute truth. I believe in reality. That's what I believe in, absolute truth. Do you know what I believe?... I believe that we each have our own individual connection with a higher thing.

"What people are neglecting is I'm not a political man, I'm a spiritual man. For me, the administration, the things that occur, it's cool, it's secondary."

When an audience member asked if he was going to use his vote this time around, Brand said: "No, I ain't registered."

In a Q&A session on Tuesday, Brand was confronted by the former Queen guitarist about his plans to avoid voting.

"If you really don't want to vote and you don't want us to vote on May 7 what do you want us to do to achieve the things that we know we need to do because we just watched your film? What do you want us to do?"

"Did you put Freddie Mercury under this kind of f---ing pressure?" Brand responded. "No wonder he was off doing lines and hanging out in Rio.

Released in cinemas on Friday (April 24), The Emperor's New Clothes takes Brand from his home town of Grays, Essex, to the City of London and on to New York, meeting various economic experts along the way.
