British movie stars Rupert Everett and Stephen Fry are to go head to head on British TV - after both signing to play fictional detective SHERLOCK HOLMES in rival productions.

The pair - both openly gay - will appear in feature-length TV films, to be screened on rival networks this Christmas (04).

Fry will reunite with longtime comedy partner, STUART LITTLE star HUGH LAURIE, who will play sidekick DR WATSON in the ITV show.

Everett meanwhile will team up with actor Ian Hart in a rival BBC production.
