DARRIN 'DEE' DEAN, the co-CEO of rap label Ruff Ryders, has been hit with various drugs and weapons charges, after police found one-and-a-half kilograms (3.3 pounds) of cocaine hidden in a secret compartment of his friend's car.
Dean was travelling as a passenger with his pal Jerry Gilbert last Thursday (31May07), when their Chevrolet SUV (sports utility vehicle) was stopped by local authorities on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in New Jersey for having a broken taillight.
As they approached the car, cops noticed the smell of marijuana and their subsequent search of the van using a sniffer dog uncovered a loaded pistol and the large supply of cocaine, reports AllHipHop.com.
Dean and Gilbert were charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a handgun and possession of a handgun while conducting narcotics violations.
Both men posted $342,500 (GBP171,250) bail and were released from Bergen County Jail on Friday (01Jun07).
Dean founded Ruff Ryders with his brother and sister in 1988 and the label, which is home to rappers DMX, Eve, Jadakiss and Styles P, has sold over 20 million records worldwide.
