How I Won The War Review

Weak
This war farce (about World War II) is just not funny. Even John Lennon in the ultimately ironic role as a soldier in the worst regiment in all of Britain doesn't make much of an impact, and as the movie gets progressively weirder it gets just plain boring, not to mention silly. And rather dumb.

The Three Musketeers (1973) Review

Very Good
I saw the word "whimsical" used in one product description of this installment of The Three Musketeers, a faithful adaptation of the classic novel, and no word could better describe the film. It's a combination of belly laughs via non-stop sight gags, endless swashbuckling, and only a dab of plot, all of which serve to make this an engaging event movie that takes place in France instead of in space. Packed with classic actors (including Charlton Heston, Christopher Lee, and Raquel Welch), this is a fun, nearly farcical adventure that's definitely worth a look.

A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum Review

Good
My personal hero Zero Mostel is not as his best here in the adaptation of the inexplicably popular stage play, the only musical comedy to come out of ancient Rome. The action centers on Mostel's slave Pseudolus and his relationship with Michael Crawford's wealthy teen Hero. Pseudolus wants to be free, Hero wants the hand of the concubine next door. A plot is hatched, and many tunes are belted out. Unfortunately, most of Stephen Sondheim's best songs must have been left in Venice, so if you can sit through junk like "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid," you should be able to make it to A Funny Thing's funnier moments. Buster Keaton's final performance.

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (1971) Review

Essential
When you're a kid, candy is a dream: a fluffy white cloud of chocolate joy. For adults, candy is poison, a fat filled brick of love handles, pimples, and excessive flatulants. But, Willy Wonka, despite being a film about sugar-tooth delights, brings joy to adult and child alike.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory stars Gene Wilder as Wonka himself, in an 70's adaptation of the popular children's book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Willy Wonka tells the story of a poverty-stricken boy on a fantastic voyage through the magical candy factories of the Willy Wonka Candy Company. A strange and fantastic place, filled with dancing midget Oompa Loompas and chocolates with powers far beyond those of common Hershey bars.
