The Bafta Awards 2014

The stars turned out once again in London on Sunday for the British Academy Film Awards, better known as the Baftas, and winners were spread between 12 Years a Slave, Gravity, Blue Jasmine, American Hustle, Captain Phillips and Philomena. All of these contenders continue to jostle for attention in the final stretch before Oscar night on 2nd March. Catch up on the Bafta action here.

Meanwhile, a flurry of trailers have been released. Marvel gave us a peek at Guardians of the Galaxy, including Chris Pratt's Star Lord and Zoe Saldana's Gamora, plus digital characters played by Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Vin Diesel (Groot) and Dave Bautista (Drax). It looks like a full-on action romp with a strong comical slant. Costars include Benicio Del Toro and John C Reilly. It opens in August. Meet the Guardians of the Galaxy characters here.

Tom Hardy is the latest actor to do a one-man-show movie, joining the likes of Sandra Bullock (Gravity) and Robert Redford (All Is Lost). In Locke, which has a new teaser trailer this week, he spends the entire film driving to London, and we only hear his costar's voices as he talks to them on his hands-free mobile phone. Even so, it looks pretty intense. The film opens in April. Watch 'Locke' trailer.

There's also a new trailer for The Double, another offbeat movie from actor-filmmaker Richard Ayoade (Sumbarine). This one stars Jesse Eisenberg as a hapless guy whose life goes into a tailspin when he meets his doppelganger. He and costar Mia Wasikowska are joined by a flurry of cameos including Chris O'Dowd, Sally Hawkins and Paddy Considine. The stylish film opens in Britain in April and in the US in May. Watch 'The Double' trailer here.

Crossing back over to America, a new trailer for David Gordon Green's Joe promises an morally complex drama as Nicolas Cage plays an ex-con trying to go straight. Then he steps in to help a 15-year-old (Mud's Tye Sheridan) with an abusive dad. It looks like an unusually sensitive role for Cage and a return to serious form for Green. It's out in April in America, but British audiences have to wait until July. Take a look at Nichols Cage's 'Joe' here.

And finally, we had our first preview of Angelina Jolie's latest project as director. Unbroken is the story of 1930s Olympian Louis Zamperini, who during WWII was captured and tortured by the Japanese. The trailer is set up as a rousing documentary about Zamperini, featuring the man himself as well as scenes with rising-star actor Jack O'Connell, who plays him. This seriously inspirational-looking movie opens next January. Watch 'Unbroken' trailer.
