A Week In Movies: Snowpiercer Premieres In L.A., Dustin Hoffman Films In London, New Trailers Promise Sci-Fi, Black Comedy And Comic-Book Action

Snowpiercer

Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris, Alison Pill and John Cho were among the celebrities who turned out this week for the opening night of the Los Angeles Film Festival, which kicked off with the premiere of Bong Joon-ho's futuristic thriller Snowpiercer. It's based on a French comic book and stars Chris Evans, who's currently in London filming Avengers: Age of Ultron. Watch the action-packed trailer and find out more about 'Snowpiercer' here.

Also in London, Dustin Hoffman was caught on camera shooting scenes for his new film Esio Trot, based on the Roald Dahl story about a bachelor who falls for his neighbour, but is frustrated that she only seems to care about her pet tortoise. Costars include Judi Dench and James Corden. Take a peak at the Dustin Hoffman filming photos here.

As the film opens this weekend in the US, there's a new UK clip for The Signal, starring man of the moment Brenton Thwaites (also in this week's release Oculus as well as Maleficent), plus Laurence Fishburne and Olivia Cooke. It looks sensual, thrilling and intensely inventive and starts rolling out in Europe next month. Watch 'The Signal - Clip' here.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

There's a new trailer this week for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the revenge-centred sequel to the hit comic book romp once again starring Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Clive Owen, Mickey Rourke, plus Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eva Green, Josh Brolin and Lady Gaga. With the same high-contrast visual imagery as the original, the film opens in August. Watch 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill' Trailer.

Also out in August in America, Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis and Amy Poehler star in Are You Here, a comedy-drama about families and lifelong friendships from writer-director Matthew Weiner, who created Mad Men. The trailer makes it look funny and telling, and ultimately moving. Watch 'Are You Here' Trailer.

November Man

Pierce Brosnan stars in the thriller The November Man, as a jaded former CIA hitman facing off against his former protege. Also opening in August, it has a new explosive and action-packed trailer this week. It's clearly designed along the lines of Luc Besson romps like Taken or 3 Days to Kill. Watch 'The November Man' Trailer.

There's also a trailer for the British black comedy What We Did on Our Holiday, which stars Rosamund Pike, David Tennant and Billy Connolly. It's a cheeky, offbeat story set in the Scottish Highlands, told through the eyes of three bright-eyed little kids. It arrives in UK cinemas in September. Watch 'What We Did on Our Holiday' Trailer.

And a sneak peak emerged this week for Transformers: Age of Extinction, the sequel/reboot that opens in just a couple of weeks starring Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci and Kelsey Grammer. It reveals new action scenes, including more Dinobots and other big effects-based thrills. Watch 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' TV Spot.
