A Week In Movies: Jennifer promotes the Millers, Angelina goes evil, Coogan moves beyond Alan Partridge
London holds a pair of starry premieres, Disney stages a major conference for fans in California, and new trailers arrive for Steve Coogan, Judi Dench, Mark Wahlberg, Saoirse Ronan and Joaquin Phoenix...
We're the Millers had a huge premiere in London this week, and stars Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis and Will Poulter were all over town promoting the film before walking the blue carpet in Leicester Square. Also in London, Rachel McAdams attended the world premiere of her new movie About Time, about a guy who travels back in time to find himself a girlfriend. She was accompanied by costars Bill Nighy and Domhnall Gleeson, plus filmmaker Richard Curtis, at Somerset House, where the premiere screening was held outdoors. The film opens next month. Meanwhile at the D23 Disney fan event in California, Angelina Jolie talked about joining the Disney family to for a spin-off movie about evil Queen Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. She also spoke about how they designed the character, and what it's like to play a sympathetic villain. Sharlto Copley and Peter Capaldi costar in the film, which comes out next summer. We have a great little video here showing Angelina's enthusiasm for the role.
Steve Coogan rides atop the UK box office chart with the comedy Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, but he has a more serious film in the pipeline. In Philomena, he plays a journalist who helps a woman (Judi Dench) travel to America to find out what happened to the son she was forced to give up for adoption in the 1950s. Directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen), the gently comical drama opens in November. Watch the touching trailer for Philomena here.
Mark Wahlberg is also lighting up the box office at the moment with 2 Guns, and his next film Lone Survivor much darker, if the intense new trailer is anything to go by. He plays a Navy SEAL on a perilous mission to Afghanistan with a team of trusted colleagues. But pretty much everything goes wrong. Based on a true story, the film opens in America in December and in the UK next February. Watch the trailer for Lone Survivor.
The first trailer emerged this week for How I Live Now, the young adult drama starring Saoirse Ronan as a teen who falls in love in a small English village right before a nuclear war breaks out. It opens in October and looks pretty epic. Watch the 'first look' 'How I Live Now' trailer here.
And we also got our first glimpse of Her, the new film by Spike Jonze (Adaptation) starring Joaquin Phoenix as a guy who falls in love with his intelligent computer operating system (voiced by Scarlett Johansson). The trailer shows an inventive, sensitive drama with terrific performances from Phoenix, Amy Adams and Rooney Mara. It opens in December. You can see the trailer for Spike Jonze's directed 'Her' here.
