A Week In Movies: The Hangover Saga Ends, The Hunger Games Cast Talk Catching Fire And Jennifer Aniston Plays A Stripper

The Hangover III

The big global release this week is The Hangover Part III, and the cast has been jetting around the world for premieres in Los Angeles and London, where fans screamed at actors Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Ken Jeong as they paraded up the red carpet. The critical response hasn't been quite as positive.

The 66th Cannes Film Festival winds down this weekend in France. Critics are praising new films by Steven Soderbergh (Behind the Candelabra starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon), Alexander Payne (Nebraska with Bruce Dern) and the Coen Brothers (Inside Llewyn Davis with break-out actor Oscar Isaac). They weren't so thrilled by Ryan Gosling's reunion with Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn for Only God Forgives, although they praised costar Kristin Scott Thomas for going far against type.

The cast and crew of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire also crashed the Cannes red carpet. Jennifer Lawrence, costar Sam Claflin and director Francis Lawrence all spoke to the press about this second film in the dystopic-future series, which opens in November.

We're The Millers

As for this week's trailers, the one that grabbed the most attention was We're the Millers, an action-comedy starring Jennifer Aniston as a stripper who teams up with pot dealer Jason Sudeikis and two delinquent kids (Emma Roberts and Will Poulter) pretending to be a clean-cut family for a major drug deal. The film opens in August and, frankly, it looks hilarious.

Also out in August but much more high-brow, The Butler is the true story of Eugene Allen, who served eight presidents in the White House between 1952 and 1986. Forest Whitaker plays Allen over the three decades, with a seriously high-powered cast around him, including Oprah Winfrey, Robin Williams, Jane Fonda, Vanessa Redgrave and Melissa Leo. Directed by Lee Daniels (Precious), it looks like punchy, epic-sized drama set against the backdrop of some turbulent American history.

Man of Steel

And finally, we had a more action-oriented trailer for the impending Superman reboot Man of Steel. Zack Snyder (300) directed the film with Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) producing, so we can expect a somewhat darker version of the story. And the new trailer shows some pretty intense work from actors like Michael Shannon (as the villainous Zod) and Russell Crowe (as Superman's dad). It also reveals even more of star Henry Cavill's burly physicality. Oddly, Warner Bros isn't doing advance screenings to build the buzz, so no one knows what to expect when the film debuts on June 14th.
