A Week In Movies: Gravity And 12 Years A Slave Lead Oscar Nominations, Filming Goes To The Wire On Captain America 2

Jared Leto Golden Globes 2014

After the glamour of the essentially irrelevant Golden Globes on Sunday, the biggest movie news this week was the Oscar nominations announcement on Wednesday. As expected, 12 Years a Slave and Gravity got another big awards-season boost, while American Hustle, Dallas Buyers Club and Nebraska move into pole position, bumping Inside Llewyn Davis and The Wolf of Wall Street out of the spotlight. Awards contenders continue to dominate cinema screens in both America and Britain, although distributors are sneaking smaller films in as alternative programming. In the US, audiences can catch the high school comedy G.B.F. or the British period romance Summer in February, while in the UK offbeat options include Michael Cera in the Chilean road trip Crystal Fairy and the cheeky Penn & Teller documentary Tim's Vermeer. As for movies in production, paparazzi snapped a series of photos of the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier arriving on-set in Los Angeles this week - including Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie. The film costars Hayley Atwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, Dominic Cooper and Toby Jones, and it opens in March. Browse our pics from Captain America: The Winter Soldier filmset.

Reasonable Doubt

Samuel L. Jackson and Dominic Cooper also costar in Reasonable Doubt, which released a new trailer and a separate clip this week. The film pits them against each other as a murder suspect and a district attorney who's more involved in the case than he wants to be. Although the trailer kind of gives away the whole plot, it looks intriguing. The film opens this week in the US and doesn't yet have a UK release date. You can watch 'Reasonable Doubt trailer and clip here.

Three new clips from the animated action-comedy The Nut Job were released this week to go along with the film's US release this weekend. The voice cast includes Will Arnett, Katherine Heigl, Brendan Fraser, Liam Neeson and Maya Rudolph. This movie, which looks like witty fun, also doesn't have a UK release date quite yet. Fading Gigolo

And finally there's a new trailer for Fading Gigolo, a romantic comedy written and directed by actor John Turturro, who also stars in the film as a normal guy who is convinced to become a gigolo by Woody Allen for clients including Sofia Vergara, Vanessa Paradis and Sharon Stone. It looks funny and rather charming, and opens in May. You can check out the 'Fading Gigolo' trailer here.
