Hunger Games Catching Fire

The big event this week was the world premiere on Monday night of the new Hunger Games movie Catching Fire, with the entire cast on the red carpet in Leicester Square. Early word on the film has been overwhelmingly positive before it opens worldwide next week. The press have even been seen applauding at screenings. New films released in Britain this week include Lee Daniels' star-packed drama The Butler, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's crowd-pleasing writing and directing debut Don Jon, Ridley Scott's A-list thriller The Counsellor and Jude Law in the British crime comedy Dom Hemingway. But will any of these be able to unseat Gravity on the UK box office chart? Click to read our reviews for The ButlerDon JonThe CounsellorDom Hemingway and Gravity.

Meanwhile the Thor machine continues to march around the world, with the onslaught moving to America this week. Natalie Portman braved her fans on the streets of New York as she arrived for a chat with David Letterman. The paparazzi were disappointed with a quick wave, so hung around to see her leave afterwards. Watch a video of the star attending The David Letterman show.

This week's hottest new teaser trailer is for next summer's fractured fairy tale , which tells the Sleeping Beauty story from the point of view of the wicked queen, played by Angelina Jolie. It looks cleverly styled after the Disney animated classic, with elaborate effects and amazing costumes. Costars include Elle Fanning, Juno Temple, Sam Riley, Sharlto Copley and new Doctor Who Peter Capaldi. Watch the Maleficent teaser trailer here.

We also had our first look this week at the fantasy romance Winter's Tale, which stars Colin Farrell, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Downton Abbey's Jessica Brown Findlay. It looks like an epic, emotional love story with a time travel twist. The film opens in February. Watch Winter's Tale trailer here.

Vera Farmiga and Andy Garcia star in a slightly less-epic romance as parents taking their children to university in the comedy At Middleton, which released a new trailer this week. It looks like a smart and lively rom-com about adults remembering how it feels to act like kids. It opens in January. Check out the trailer for 'At Middleton' here.

Lone Survivor

And buzz has suddenly cranked up for Mark Wahlberg's next movie Lone Survivor, which follows a group of Navy Seals on a mission in Afghanistan. Based on a true story, the title is a bit of a giveaway, but critics at the recent AFI Fest in Los Angeles say it's one of the best films of the year. It costars Ben Foster, Taylor Kitsch, Eric Bana and Emile Hirsch and opens in January in the US and February in the UK. Find out more about Wahlberg's Lone Survivor here.
