A Week In Movies: Big premieres in New York and London, plus Oscar-bait movie trailers

Turbo

The stars were out to premiere their movies over this past week. First to face the paparazzi in New York were the voice cast of the animated comedy Turbo, including Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michelle Rodriguez and Ken Jeong. The film opens this week in the US, but British audiences will have to wait until October. We have lots of footage from the event including Blake Lively and her brother, Michelle Rodriguez and Ken Jeong, The Indycar Superstars as well as the animated movie's star Ryan Reynolds.

On Tuesday in New York, Helen Mirren, Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Mary Louise Parker signed autographs and posed for photos before the premiere of their new action-comedy sequel RED 2. The film also opens this week in the US, and in two weeks in the UK. Watch the Red 2 premiere footage here.

Then in London on Wednesday, Hugh Jackman strode up the red carpet for the star-packed premiere of his new X-men movie The Wolverine, which opens next week everywhere. Take a browse through our The Wolverine UK Premiere Photo Gallery.

On Thursday, Nicolas Cage and Vanessa Hudgens turned out for the London premiere of their new serial killer thriller The Frozen Ground, which hits UK cinemas this weekend. See what Vanessa was wearing at "The Frozen Ground" premiere.

Saving Mr Banks

There were also a number of new trailers released this week showcasing films that will be in cinemas later in the year, in time for awards consideration. We got our first look at Tom Hanks as Walt Disney in Saving Mr Banks, the story of how Disney courted author PL Travers (Emma Thompson) to get the rights to film her book Mary Poppins. It looks lively and funny, and packed with strong performances. Watch Tom Hanks as Walt Disney in the 'Saving Mr Banks' trailer.

The new trailer for The Fifth Estate shows a barnstorming performance from Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange in the story of WikiLeaks. Directed by Bill Condon (Breaking Dawn), the film looks like an urgent political thriller with solid supporting roles for Laura Linney, Stanley Tucci, Dan Stevens and Daniel Bruhl. Take a look at Benedict Cumberbatch as Assange in the trailer.

12 Years A Slave

With the release of the first trailer for 12 Years A Slave, the new film from Steve McQueen (Shame), Oscar buzz has kicked up a gear for Chiwerel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch and Brad Pitt. The true story of a free black man who was thrown into slavery, the film looks utterly unmissable. Take a look at the trailer for 12 Years A Slave here.

And finally a film that has no awards aspirations: we got our first glimpse of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger's new prison break movie Escape Plan, which looks a bit like one of those insane action movies they made back in the 1980s. Costarring Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Vinnie Jones and Amy Ryan, the film looks hilariously over-serious. It opens in the autumn. See Sly and Arnie doing their thing in the Escape Plan trailer.
