A Week In Movies: Double Premieres For Godzilla And X-Men, Cannes Kicks Off, Bradley Cooper Films In L.A., And New Trailers For Robert Pattinson, Chris Evans And Sam Claflin
New Godzilla and X-men movies premiere in both America and Britain, just before the Cannes Film Festival opens with Grace of Monaco. Eastwood directs Cooper on set in Los Angeles. And The Rover, Snowpiercer, The Riot Club and Disney's live-action Cinderella drop new trailers...
The stars of both Godzilla and X-men: Days of Future Past turned out for a pair of big premieres over the past week. Godzilla, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston, had its world premiere in Los Angeles, while X-men: Days of Future Past, starring Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, bowed in New York. Then both casts travelled to London for European premieres a few days later. But there was an even bigger film event this week in France, as the Cannes Film Festival kicked off with Nicole Kidman's new movie Grace of Monaco. The film received savage reviews from the critics, but Kidman brought real glamour to opening night. And the critics had far more praise for Mike Leigh's new film Mr. Turner, which stars Timothy Spall. Meanwhile back in Los Angeles, Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller and Clint Eastwood were photographed while out filming scenes for their new movie American Sniper. Eastwood is directing the film, in which Cooper plays a Navy Seal looking back over his career, during which he had 150 confirmed kills. Take a look at our rather "sniper-esque" photos of Bradley Cooper filming "American Sniper".
Robert Pattinson's new Australian thriller The Rover released a new trailer this week, promising another gritty thriller from Animal Kingdom director David Michod. Pattinson stars with Guy Pearce in the film, which is set 10 years after society collapses. It looks dark and intensely personal, and premieres Cannes before its release in America next month and in Britain in August. Watch 'The Rover' Trailer.
Another post-apocalyptic thriller also released a new trailer this week, and this one looks pretty crazy. Set on a long train traversing a snowy landscape, the film is a battle for power and survival starring Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, Ed Harris and John Hurt. From acclaimed Korean director Bong Joon Ho (The Host), the film looks outrageous and frankly unmissable. It opens next month in America. Watch 'Snowpiercer' Trailer.
We also got our first glimpse of The Riot Club, a British drama with a rising-star cast including Sam Claflin, Jessica Brown Findlay, Douglas Booth, Holliday Grainger and Max Irons. It's about a notoriously posh secret society at Oxford. The film looks dark, violent and rather sexy, and it opens in the UK in September. Watch 'The Riot Club' Trailer.
And there's an incredibly vague new teaser for Disney's new Cinderella, revealing nothing more than an elegant glass slipper. After Angelina Jolie's Maleficent (a spin on the animated classic Sleeping Beauty), Disney has cast Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter and Lily James in a live-action remake of another animated classic. It's out next year. Watch the 'Cinderella' Teaser Trailer.
