A Week In Movies Feat: Tarantino's Django Unchained, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher all Premier

Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained

In New York, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Johnson and a bald-shaven Christoph Waltz attended the premiere of Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, joking with the photographers as they posed for them. And Tarantino even turned up with his Kill Bill star Uma Thurman on his arm.

Meanwhile in London, the first part in Peter Jackson's new trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, had its royal film performance this week with much of the cast in attendance, including Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett and Ian McKellen, who watched the film alongside Prince William. The film is in cinemas now, with the following chapters scheduled for next Christmas and the summer of 2014.

Also in London, Tom Cruise's new action movie Jack Reacher had its lavish world premiere in Leicester Square, attended by Cruise, Robert Duvall and British costars Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo. There was also an assortment of celebrities and sportsmen on the red carpet, including Tom Hardy, Nicole Scherzinger, Olympic sailing champion Ben Ainslee, boxer Davie Haye and The Stig from Top Gear.

Oblivion Trailer

This week saw the debut of a trailer for Cruise's next action movie, the apocalyptic thriller Oblivion. Set in a distant future in which humans have abandoned earth, it's about a clean-up crew that discovers things on the surface aren't quite what they seem. The film looks dark and intriguing, with vivid effects and a strong supporting cast including Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough and Olga Kurylenko. It opens in the spring.

Lone Ranger Trailer

Another hotly anticipated film to get a new trailer this week was The Lone Ranger, which stars Armie Hammer in the title role with Johnny Depp as his faithful sidekick Tonto. Directed by Gore Verbinski (who made the original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy), the film looks like a pretty full-on action extravaganza with a distinctly comical tone.

And finally, we also had a new trailer for the Superman reboot  Man of Steel, giving us our first proper look at star Henry Cavill in the redesigned super-suit. Directed by Zack Snyder, the film costars Amy Adams, Michael Shannon and Kevin Costner. The trailer shows a darker, more introspective approach to the character, perhaps due to the fact that it's produced by Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan. It opens next summer.
