Things get heated as Joy Behar weighs in on the Hasselbeck-O'Donnell conflict.
Wait, what’s happening over on The View? This is meant to be our relaxing daytime viewing, but recently, after the rumoured appointment of Rosie O’Donnell to the panel, daggers have been flying – in the form or some uncalled for comments.
Hasselbeck wasn't really enjoying the view after O'Donnell's tentative return.
It all started with the tentative plans to bring O’Donnell back to The View. When the announcement was made earlier that week, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, a former host of the ABC panel show and current Fox News contributor, interrupted her vacation for the sole purpose of calling in to Fox & Friends with some rather harsh words for her former co-host.
"Here in comes to The View the very woman who spit in the face of our military, spit in the face of her own network, and really in the face of a person who stood by her and had civilized debates for the time that she was there, coming back with a bunch of control ready to regain a seat at the View table,” Hasselbeck said.
She may have been referring to 2007, when she and O’Donnell got involved in a heated debate over the Iraq war on The View. O’Donnell objected to the war, while Hasselbeck – an outspoken Conservative – was pro. She and a number of conservative commentators took particular issue with one of O’Donnell’s statements. O'Donnell asked, "655,000 Iraqi civilians dead. Who are the terrorists?"
Hasselbeck then refused to defend her co-host against the influx of angry comments. Following her most recent statement, Hasselbeck has been criticised by none other than The View veteran Joy Behar, who called the comment a “hate-filled remark.”
"I thought that was really kind of below the belt—to say that she spits in the face of the military," she told the CNN host. "I'd like Elisabeth to explain herself, really. What does she mean by that?"
O'Donnell's rumoured return stirred up an old conflict.
"Isn't it kind of a nasty thing to say about somebody who basically is a good person?" Behar continued (quote via Us Weekly). "I mean, say what you want about ROSIE O'DONNELL, she's a very generous person, she has a million kids, she's always rescuing children—I mean, she has more kids than Mrs. Duggar at this point on her roster. Her son is at The Citadel—what more does Elisabeth want?"
Shots fired, then. The three are yet to get together and work out the issue in person, though we’d certainly love to see that episode.
