Hollywood actress Rose McGowan only took up acting because she was too poor to pay for the deposit on an apartment. The Grindhouse star, 34, admits she didn't harbour any desire to perform during her youth - but was forced to take a role in 1995 cult classic The Doom Generation because it paid enough for her to rent a new home. She says, "I lost my lease on my apartment and I was going to have to go back to live with my dad. So I was in Los Angeles, staying with a friend who knew this lady who was a producer, and she offered me a part in a movie."
