Bosses at the site released a new intellectual-property policy on Monday (17Dec12), which seemingly said that the site, which is owned by Facebook.com, could sell on users' pictures without compensation or notification after 16 January (13).
The news angered a number of celebrities who regularly take snaps and publish them on the site, and they insisted they would shut down their accounts if the changes are not reviewed.
Taking to Twitter.com to address the move, Kardashian writes, "I really loved Instagram. I need to review this new policy. I don't think its fair", while Sparks added, "Yikes! Bye instagram".
Actor Jonah Hill joked on the site, "Instagram, you were my favorite app and you stabbed me in the back. I feel like I married you and you just slept with my best friend."
Actress Dawson insisted she was defecting to a rival, tweeting, "Nice! Thanks! Gonna make sure my photos on Instagram are backed up & then switch to Tadaa!"
Pink and Mia Farrow had earlier revealed their plans to quit the site, and Instagram bosses released another statement following the mass outcry to insist they had no intention of selling off users' photos.
