LATEST: British stars RONNIE CORBETT, Sir David Jason and David Suchet have joined a host of celebrities paying tribute to late comedian RONNIE BARKER, who died yesterday (03OCT05).

The comedy veteran passed away at his English home after a long period of heart problems. He was 76.

His partner Corbett, who along with Barker formed TV double act The Two Ronnies, will remember his colleague and friend as "pure gold in triplicate - as a performer, a writer and a friend".

Corbett declared their 40 year working relationship as "an absolute pleasure".

Barker's OPEN ALL HOURS co-star SIR DAVID JASON, called the comedian "a dear friend and someone for whom I had the greatest respect".

He added, "Working with Ronnie was always a joy and were without doubt some of the best years of my career."

Meanwhile, POIROT star DAVID SUCHET, who once bought a house from Barker, enthused, "He has left behind a library of work which will entertain this nation for many years to come."
