California lawmakers are battling to turn late actor-turned-politician Ronald Reagan's 100th birthday into an official state day in 2011.
The state Senate unanimously passed a bill designating 6 February (11) as Ronald Reagan Day.
The legislation now heads to the state Assembly for an official decision.
If those behind the bid get their way, school teachers in California will be required to commemorate former Governor and President Reagan's life.
Ronald Reagan Day would be only the third day of recognition in California dedicated to an individual.
