Soul legend Ronald Isley was indicted in Los Angeles on Wednesday (13OCT04) for evading taxes over a five-year period.
LA authorities have confirmed the SUMMER BREEZE crooner, 63, has been charged with five counts of tax evasion and one count of failing to file an income tax return.
America's INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE (IRS) claim the singer deposited royalty cheques for himself, which belong to his Isley Brothers bandmates, including his late brother O'KELLY.
Isley asked for 50 per cent of his tour fees to be paid in cash on the day of the performance, of which he paid his band in cash.
Isley has been trouble many time with tax authorities. In 2000 he was forced to sell off his share of his band's music catalogue to help raise money to pay a $5 million (GBP2.7 million) tax bill.
The IRS claim the star failed to file tax returns for the years 1997 until 2001 and in 2002 did not sign his return and failed to pay taxes due.
Isley is currently suffering from ill health after he suffered a minor stroke in London in August (04).15/10/2004 17:13
