The story, however, still feels ahead of its time, with Sarandon's femme fatale narrating a tale of how she adopts one player at her local Durham Bulls minor league baseball franchise every year -- providing him with countless years of expertise about the game and essentially screwing him silly along the way. This season, it's "Nuke" LaLoosh (Robbins), a wild pitcher who could use same taming. Also on the case is catcher "Crash" Davis (Costner), whose life lessons also help him out on the field.

As part of its tired buddy-cop routine, Homicide suggests that everyone in La La Land works one career but dreams of another. Cops want to be real estate brokers, musicians want to be actors. So it's only appropriate that the film plays along with this concept, laboring as a police investigation by day and moonlighting as an entertainment industry spoof after hours.

The first Bad Boys shouldn't have been any good at all, but ended up a huge hit that remade the careers of just about everyone involved. It was directed by a guy known only for commercials (Michael Bay), produced by a team (Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson) desperate for a hit, and starring two sitcom actors (Martin Lawrence and Will Smith) with no proven movie clout. Somehow, it all came together into a near classic, with lovingly choreographed explosions and Lawrence and Smith doing hilarious, improvised riffs over the by-the-numbers script.

Larry Flynt) and Cesar Dominguez (Antonio Banderas - Desperado, The Mask of Zorro) are best buddies whose careers as professional boxers are on the downswing. Fortunately for them, the undercard for the Mike Tyson match tonight just lost its scheduled fighters to a car accident and a drug overdose. If Vince and Cesar can make it from L.A. to Vegas by Showtime, they'll be paid to fight for the first time in years, facing each other, with a title shot going to the winner.
