Director Roman Polanski has finally cast the lead for his new film OLIVER TWIST - ten-year-old BARNEY CLARKE has secured the part after exhaustive auditions.

English Clarke, whose previous experience extends to 2001's low budget British film THE LAWLESS HEART and an episode of TV show FOYLE'S WAR, won the role after screentesting on the Prague, Czech Republic film set, following Polanski's trawl of London drama schools to get a shortlist of 30 candidates.

Polanski, who has cast SIR Ben Kingsley as FAGIN, says the CHARLES DICKENS' penned story is ripe for a resurrection.

He says, "It is destined for children, particularly my own children. It has been two generations since anyone touched it."
