Rolling Stones rocker Ronnie Wood proved he is a perfect gentleman by asking girlfriend Sally Humphreys' father for permission to propose.

The guitarist is heading down the aisle for the third time after getting engaged to the Tv and theatre producer, who reveals Wood followed tradition by asking Colin Humphreys for his daughter's hand in marriage.

Sally explains, "Ronnie invited my parents down to London for the premiere of (Rolling Stones documentary) Crossfire Hurricane and he asked my Dad the next day. Then he asked me, although he didn't go down on one knee. But I knew it was on the cards because we'd already talked about it...

"We're both very happy and everyone is delighted for us. We're very lucky that our families are happy and supportive of our engagement. We haven't set a date yet, but the wedding will be very simple, nothing big or flashy."

And Sally's musician mum Alison is thrilled to welcome Wood to the family, telling Britain's Daily Mail, "We've known Ronnie for about five years and we're absolutely delighted with the engagement. He's visited us about three times and we like him a lot. They just have such a huge amount in common, especially the arts. They're very supportive of each other."

Wood has also received the approval of his second wife Jo, his partner of 23 years who he left in 2008 after his affair with a Russian waitress was exposed.

Jo says, "I wish them all the best and I've already passed on my congratulations. I think they're a great match, she's a very sweet lady."
