Sony Pictures have decided to delay the release of filmmaker Roland Emmerich's latest big budget disaster movie 2012.
The studio is moving the film's release from 10 July (09) to 13 November (09), two weekends before the lucrative Thanksgiving period in the U.S., in the hope of maximising box-office potential.
The movie, about an academic researcher who leads a group of people in a fight to counteract the apocalyptic events that were predicted by the ancient Mayan calendar, stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Oliver Platt and Danny Glover.
It is the latest offering from German director Emmerich, who has helmed disaster flicks Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow.
