Filmmakers behind a new documentary about late movie critic Roger Ebert's life have vowed to complete the project following his death.

Sources close to the film, titled Life, have revealed they knew Ebert was close to death as they raced to complete the project - but they ran out of time.

The journalist lost his battle with cancer on Thursday (04Apr13).

Director Steve James says, "We are devastated. But we will continue. We will finish the film."

The project, based on Ebert's 2011 memoir, is being executive produced by Martin Scorsese.
