Late funnyman Rodney Dangerfield is to be honoured with a comedy school in his name and a posthumous doctorate from a New York college.

The comedy legend, who died in 2004, will be awarded an honorary posthumous degree by officials at Manhattanville College on Saturday (17May14), and they have also confirmed plans to launch the Rodney Dangerfield Institute for the Study of Comedy.

Students will be able to take comedy courses through the school, and the first seminar, which is set to kick off in the autumn (14), will focus on Dangerfield's work.

The star's widow, Joan, will accept the honorary doctorate on the comedian's behalf and she has also been named Honorary Chair of the Rodney Dangerfield Institute.
