The pro wrestling world is mourning the loss of one of its biggest stars, ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper who has died aged 61. Piper’s death was announced on Friday by TMZ who reported the wrestling legend had died from cardiac arrest in his sleep at his home in Hollywood on Thursday night.

Born Roderick Toombs, Piper hailed from Canada, but spent his wrestling career playing up his Scottish heritage, wearing a kilt to the ring and being billed as from Glasgow, Scotland. The Canadian sportsman passed away from natural causes in Hollywood on Friday (31Jul15), according to TMZ.com.
Born Roderick George Toombs, he was nicknamed 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper and rose to fame in the 1980s as one of the biggest stars in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) organisation.
He took part in WrestleMania I back in 1985 and faced off against Hulk Hogan and Mr. T, and after racking up 34 championships, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005.

WWE Superstar Ryback says it ''feels right'' for Hulk Hogan to return for 'WrestleMania XXX'.
The 32-year-old professional wrestler - real name Ryan Reeves - is hoping rumours the legendary grappler is coming back to appear at the WWE's showpiece event in New Orleans on April 6 are true because he thinks Hulk will bring even more excitement to the show.
Ryback - who can be seen competing in the 'WWE Royal Rumble' this Sunday (27.01.14) , which is available in the UK on Sky Sports Box Office - told BANG Showbiz: ''To have a guy like Hulk Hogan come back for 'WrestleMania XXX' it just feels right. His impact on the WWE and the significance of his career in the WWE to where it is now, he played a big part of that. To have him back, and I don't know his physical condition or anything of that nature so I don't know what role he can play, but just to have someone like Hulk Hogan there in the building in New Orleans it just feels right. I'm hoping something can be done on that end.''

Wrestler-turned-actor 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper is undergoing emergency surgery after doctors discovered he has been fighting with a broken neck.
The grappler, 57, has been struggling with pains in his neck for some time, but brushed off the aches to fight opponents like Terry Funk and Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin.
However, Piper has since sought help from medics - and they were stunned to discover he has been wrestling with a serious injury.
In a series of posts on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "So just for the record, I beat, The Miz, Terry Funk, and 2 others guys with a broken neck!!"

The grappler, real name Roderick Toombs, was arrested in Hollywood on 2 July (09) after failing a field sobriety test.
On Wednesday (22Jul09), he was charged with a misdemeanour count of DUI and one count of driving without a valid licence.
The 55 year old appeared in a Los Angeles court on Thursday (23Jul09) to enter his plea, reports TMZ.com.

The semi-retired grappler, real name Roderick Toombs, was arrested in Hollywood on 2 July (09) after failing a field sobriety test.
According to TMZ.com, the Los Angeles City Attorney has now filed a misdemeanour count of DUI against Piper, as well as one count of driving without a valid licence.
If convicted, the 55 year old could be sentenced to jail time and subjected to a $1,000 (£665) fine.

The semi-retired grappler, real name Roderick Toombs, was pulled over by police in the early hours of Thursday (02Jul09) and taken into custody after failing a field sobriety test.
He is currently being held behind bars on $5,000 (£3,330) bail, reports TMZ.com.
Working on her thesis, which centers on the seven "gateways" to the "other side," Julie (Marnette Patterson) hopes to find one of these proposed passages at the old Goldfield Hotel. Located in a god-awful ghost town in the middle of nowhere, she is bringing along her boyfriend Mike (Richie Chance) and a production crew including cameraman Chad (Kellan Lutz), soundman Dean (Scott Whyte) and his skittish gal pal Keri (Mandy Amano) to help with the investigation. He then spins the story of a spirit named Elizabeth who roams the rooms at the old inn, seeking revenge on the man who murdered her. As the crew settles in for the night, they soon realize that the specter is haunting them. Legendary wrestler 'ROWDY' Roddy Piper has been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer and will begin treatment to fight the disease immediately.
The 52-year-old Canadian, who starred in director John Carpenter's 1988 movie They Live, posted a statement on his website yesterday (27NOV06) confirming that doctors found a cancerous tumour on a disc in his spine.
Piper writes: "It seems like I have been fighting someone, something, someplace, in some manner, my whole life. But this fight is one I am gonna win!"
