Deliver Us From Eva Review

Terrible
Red flags of caution should shoot up any time the strongest actor in an ensemble comedy is a former rap star with a Halloween sequel and the critically-panned remake of Rollerball on his resume. Still, LL Cool J stands apart in the relationship farce Deliver Us from Eva, and his chemistry with love interest Gabrielle Union lifts this dreadful dud out of the doldrums but can't keep it afloat.

Headstrong Eva (Union) repeatedly interferes in her three sisters' romantic relationships. Hoping to get her off their collective cases, three frustrated friends hire ladies man James (LL Cool J) to seduce the manipulative minx. But James and Eva fall in love despite their obvious differences, and everyone comes to discover that a satisfied Eva causes more problems than an irritated one.

Hav Plenty Review

Terrible
You see, his name is Lee Plenty, and her name is Havilland. "Hav Plenty," get it? This, sadly, is the best joke in this film, an urban/Woody Allen wannabe tale of a struggling, homeless, unemployed writer who finds himself the envy of four women on New Year's Eve. That he achieves ridiculously smashing success is a foregone conclusion. Worst of all, Cherot's awful acting is punctuated by frequent monologues to camera, narrating the film. Okay, even worse than that: Those monologues are the best part of the movie. Yikes.

National Security Review

Unbearable

Director Dennis Dugan, who cut his teeth on Adam Sandler's insincere feel-good flick "Big Daddy" before cranking out the most rank movie of 2001 ("Saving Silverman"), apparently spent last year attending an Action-Comedy 101 classes. But if he graduated, it was by the skin of his teeth.

His new film is "National Security," a bungled mess of a buddy picture starring screwball talent Steve Zahn ("Joy Ride") as an ex-cop security guard teamed with one-schtick Martin Lawrence, who plays a police academy reject that got Zahn kicked off the force and thrown in jail with false accusations of police brutality.

Such race-based humor (if you can call it that) is Dugan's crutch -- the movie consists mostly of Lawrence employing his hyperactive, increasingly embarrassing ghetto clown routine to drive Zahn to vein-popping frustration.
