Robin Williams, Meryl Streep and Glenn Close were among the celebrity friends who joined family and fans of late actor Christopher Reeve at a memorial service in New York yesterday (29OCT04).

The special service, which took place at drama school JULLIARD - where Reeve studied his art, featured a 20-minute film tribute to the paralysed actor, who died earlier this month (10OCT04).

The emotional memorial concluded with the cast of Broadway, New York, musical The Lion King performing one of Reeve's favourite songs, THE CIRCLE OF LIFE.

Other celebrities who attended the service included Alec Baldwin, SUSAN SARANDON, Hillary Clinton and Kim Cattrall.

Clinton told the congregation that she was committed to pushing through all stem-cell research legislation - a cause Reeve fought for during the last years of his life.

She said, "I hope we're going to continue to fulfil his mission and when that happens, the world will owe Christopher a great debt."
