Robin Roberts ' mother has died, aged 88. The Good Morning America star's mum, Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts passed away at her home in Mississippi last night (August 30, 2012). Robin Roberts has had her own share of health problems of late and was scheduled to take a break from hosting ABC's flagship show today but ended her current run a day early, so that she could go to be by the side of her ailing mother. Lucimarian's death was reported by the Abc News affiliate Wxyz.
Robin's mother had made several appearances on Good Morning America, herself - the most recent of which was to promote her book 'My Story, My Song.' Mrs Roberts was the first African American to head Mississippi's Board of Education. Robin and her sisters travelled home through flood waters and blocked roads in order to be with their mother yesterday. They reportedly made it home just in time to spend the last few moments together with their mother before she passed away. A special condolence episode to Robin's mother has been planned on Good Morning America.
Robin Roberts was recently diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (Mds). She is taking a leave of absence from presenting Good Morning America whilst she seeks treatment for the condition. Before her show on Thursday, she posted a message on Twitter that said "Dear ones, this is my final morn ?Gma? for a while. Heading home after the show to be w/ my ailing mom in MS. You'll be in my heart [and] soul" and after the show, thanked viewers and colleagues by saying "This morning is a memory I will cherish forever. Thank you and bless you. Sally-Ann and I are on our way to be with our beloved mother. X0."
