Red Shoe is a remake of the French film Le Grand Blond Avec une Chaussure Noire ("The Blond Man with One Black Shoe"), which was a commentary on the operations of the Secret Service in a country that values its privacy. The American version is more an adult slapstick than the satire on Cold War excesses it occasionally portends to be, but it still works as a comedy with an unusually twisty plot.

Unfortunately for Bernie, there's a bigger price on his own head. Before the execs even arrive, somebody kills Bernie. Larry and Richard arrive at his mansion, discover the dead body, and panic. But a weekend party of tipsy bigwigs floats through before they can contact the police. Shockingly, nobody notices Bernie is dead. Richard then concocts a startling idea: "Why don't we just pretend he didn't die? Just for a bit!"
