Robert De Niro has said he feels like he did after 9/11, following the election of Donald Trump.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor, who has been a vocal opponent of Trump, said now he has been elected we’ll have to ‘see what happens’.

"I feel like I did after 9/11," he said.

"And we'll just see what happens. There will be many, many, many, many, many people watching.”

Last month a video of De Niro went viral, where he described Trump as, ”blatantly stupid," "pig," "punk" and “dog”, and added: "He talks about how he'd like to punch people in the face? Well, I'd like to punch him in the face.”

De Niro also spoke about Trump during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night, where the host asked if he still planned to punch him in the face.

“I can’t do that now he’s president,” De Niro replied.

“And I have to respect that position.

“I just have to see what he’s going to do and how he’s going to follow through on certain things.”

“And as we even see now in a lot of cities, there’s a lot of people getting very upset and protesting,” he added.

De Niro also joked that he now might have to take advantage of his Italian citizenship, saying, “I’ll probably have to move there.”
