LATEST: A judge has ordered troubled actor Robert Blake to find a new
lawyer in a week, after he parted ways with his third defence attorney because
of "irreconcilable differences".
Blake appeared in a Los Angeles court today (23FEB04) without an attorney
and gave judge DARLENE SCHEMPP a list of lawyers he has interviewed.
Schempp warned Blake against seeking lawyers from outside California,
whose travel could create delays, adding, "I want this trial, once it gets
started, to continue uninterrupted."
A new trial date has been set as 9 September (04). The former BARETTA, 70,
star parted with attorney THOMAS MESEREAU JR on 5 February (04), on what was
supposed to be the eve of his trial. His first two attorneys resigned after
media interviews against their advice.
Blake is accused of murdering his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, in 2001. She was
shot to death in their car outside a restaurant where they had dined.
