If Rob Lowe didn't seem to appear to be aware of the power of Twitter beforehand he will do now after what he considered an innocuous Tweet suggesting that Indianapolis Colts legendary quarter back Peyton Manning might be retiring blew up into a Twitter storm which reached as far as the mass media.
The actor didn't reveal who his source was yesterday in the tweet which read "Hearing my fave, 18 Peyton Manning will not return to #Nfl. Wow. Colts," reacting when Colts fans understandably erupted to say "Colts fans, let's hope my info is wrong. Don't like being wrong, but this time... I'm hoping Nfl Manning." He even had his son come on to defend him as Matthew Tweeted "RobLowe It's okay dad, Johnny and I still love you even if you did stir up the twittersphere... even on the blackout. Sopa Faceplam," whilst the hashtag 'robloweisreporting' became a trending topic on the microblogging site.
Speaking to Ellen Degeneres on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show,' Lowe explained the Twitter furore admitting that he was merely a "regular guy" who was "a huge, huge, huge, huge Peyton Manning fan." Revealing that he'd been surprised by the reaction on the social networking site he said "You learn the power of Twitter. That's a powerful, powerful medium."
