Rita Ora's family aren't musical.

The 'R.I.P.' singer's mother and father didn't understand why she wanted to be a singer at first as they don't have any musical background themselves, and she had to prove to them how serious she was by singing in a choir.

She said: ''I'm not sure where I get the singing from. No-one in my family is musical at all. When I told my parents, 'OK, I want to sing.' They were like, 'Huh?'

''My mum wasn't sure I even could sing, so she came to my choir to check and once she heard me, she got it. My parents have always played music in the house and my mum would dance to Tina Turner in the kitchen. So I must've picked it up from there.''

Rita's parents have Albanians Roots and hail from what is modern day Kosovo, but emigrated to England when she was a year old, and she says her mother didn't even know who Jay-Z was when she first signed to his Roc Nation record label.

She added: ''When I got home and told Mum I was going to New York to meet Jay-Z, she was like, 'What?' I don't think she even knew who he was, but now she won't admit it. Now she knows him as 'that Beyonce's husband'.''
