Siren Song Of The Counter Culture

There has been the old ‘sell out’ term thrown violently at these guys in the recent months. Not just here and there but literally plastered over these poor post hardcore punk bastards for a while and it is damaging their very solid reputation. Whether they have or not is I suppose up to you and your definition of the term. The classic of going from an indie to a major label is the main factor causing this, as if this was bad enough, the major in question was then bought out by a bigger major Geffen. But who cares now anyway with the album out and its going to reach a lot more people than it would have before, if this wasn’t true then I wouldn’t be reviewing this album. So as long as they get their

anti-this anti-that message out, never mind. These guys sound like a mish mash of punk styleE, a dash of mainstream song structure, hardcore guitars a la Sick Of It All and Poison The Well and chuck in some Blink and some dubbed riffing Refused style. The vocals are basically what you would expect from a punk band. Apparently the older offerings from this band are classed as ‘classic’ so if you are interested try out ‘Revolutions Per Minute’.

This all sounds rather pass but to be honest this is much better than the majoritory of punk out there talking about Milfs and Dogs willies. These guys actually have something relevant to say in a way that is less in your face and subtle as compared to Green Days rather cheesy American Idiot effort. See ‘Paper Wings’.

7/10
