Ringo Starr shared his 72nd birthday with fans on Saturday (07Jul12) as he hosted a special peace event in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Beatles star urged devotees to mark his big day by wishing everyone "peace and love" as the clock struck noon on Saturday, wherever they were in the world.
Starr, who has carried out the tradition since 2008, was joined by fans at Nashville's Hard Rock Cafe for the annual salute, and he was treated to a rendition of Happy Birthday, as well as a chorus of John Lennon's Give Peace A Chance, before he was given a celebratory cake.
He was joined by famous faces including country singer Vince Gill and Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, who married Marjorie Bach, the sister of Starr's wife Barbara Bach.
Walsh says, "He is my brother-in-law, so it's kind of family business. I've been to the last couple, and I didn't want to miss this one. I think a peace and love moment would be good for the entire planet."
Speaking about the event, Starr adds, "It's sort of catching on more and more, the more we do. We got lots of blogs from Japan and China and all over the world saying, 'We did peace and love.' So it's working."
Starr rounded off his birthday celebrations by performing at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.
