Ringo Starr and Charlie Watts have joined a coalition of rock drummers planning to get Elvis Presley's former percussionist DJ FONTANA inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

For the first time in five years, no "sidemen" musicians were inducted in Monday night's (15MAR04) induction class.

The category was established in 2000 to honour background artists whose instruments contributed to rock's greatest hits.

Elvis' guitarist SCOTTY MOORE was inducted last year (03).

Now, rock's greatest drummers have signed a letter to the hall's officials urging them to add Fontana next year (05). Fontana, himself, feels that he, Moore and bass player BILL BLACK should have been inducted together.
