Following on from her triumphant Hackney Weekend performance, Rihanna wasn't about to let rain stop play when it came to her Wireless set on Sunday. The 24 year-old star arrived onstage 40 minutes late for the Hyde Park show; perhaps she caught wind of what was happening at T in the Park's main stage and was trying to rival Nicki Minaj for tardiness. Regardless of her poor timekeeping, her set seems to have been a success, as she stormed through a selection of songs, old and new, spanning her back catalogue.
Rhi-Rhi showed her appreciation for those that had braved the elements to watch her and told the crowd "only in London would you guys stay in the rain." It may have been the perfect time for the singer to impress the crowd with her breakthrough hit 'Umbrella' but NME report that the rain stopped just before she played it, somewhat ironically. She closed the set with 'We Found Love,' one of her recent hits. Other performers at the Wireless Festival included Cher Lloyd, who opened the main stage, A$AP Rocky and Calvin Harris.
The rain may not have hampered the enjoyment for those at the Wireless festival but the knock-on effect of the rain has caused the cancellation of another music event. The 'Hit Parade' concert was due to feature the onstage reunion of Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan but the grounds have been deemed unsafe for another large-scale event.
