Rihanna is to team up with the Will Smith and James Lasseter production company Overbrook Entertainment to create a new fashion reality competition show called Styled to Rock, on Style.

According to Deadline, Rihanna will 'hand pick' twelve designers to compete in a ten episode series, by creating fashion items and outfits for top celebrities. There has been a gap in the market for this kind of show since the other major TV fashion design competition, Project Runway, has been suffering with major drops in ratings.

In a statement, Style Media's president, Salaam Coleman Smith said: "Rihanna is a trailblazer, a trendsetter and the epitome of style. She has a powerful and unique point-of-view that transcends every aspect of pop culture, including fashion, and is a leading creative force. On the heels of our successful network rebrand, 'Styled to Rock' and Style's new partnership with Rihanna will reinvent the fashion competition genre, fueling our viewers insatiable appetite for all things style."

"Fashion has always played an integral part in my life and career." Said Rihanna, "I am so excited to partner with Style Network and share my creative insight with these 12 designers and give them this opportunity to showcase their work."

The structure of the show will see a new challenge every week, pushing the contestant's creativity to its very limits, and a celebrity will guest judge each week. Given that Rihanna's 7th studio album Unapologetic has just been released and she'll be setting off on a major tour of North America, starting in March and ending in May, next year, we're unsure when she'll find time to fit this show in. Nevertheless, she surely will and it's expected to hit screens sometime next year.
