Rihanna's epic 777 tour hit Mexico City, Mexico last night (16th Nov 2012) to a crowd of just 2000 people. Although that sounds a big number, her arena tours tend to hit 10,000 people per show or more! Tonight she's in Toronto at the Danforth Music Hall, according to CBC, which has an even smaller capacity, meaning only 1400 people will see tonight's gig.
Despite turning up two hours late to her Mexico City performance, the crowd were happy to wait and were overjoyed when she arrived. She gave renditions of classics such as Umbrella and What's My Name plus tracks from the new album Unapolagetic, including number one single Diamonds. After the show there was a party on the 777 Boeing Jet that she and a group of selected individuals from the media and her fan group are travelling on. On stage she said to the crowd "Because we're in Mexico, we have to drink tequila!" Which followed what she'd said to the media prior to leaving: "We will transform this jumbo jet into a tour bus... We're practically living on this thing for a week: sleeping, partying, all together...it's going to be a wild ride. I wanted it to be a rock 'n' roll adventure, and I think when it's over it will be the coolest thing I've ever done."
The 777 tour reaches seven cities in seven countries in seven days. Tomorrow she'll be heading away from Canada all the way to Stockholm, Sweden, before heading to Paris, Berlin, London and making her way back to New York for the final show and the launch of her seventh (you can see where the theme's come from) album Unapolagetic. The venues aren't announced until the day and only a very small number of people have the privilege of going. Sounds a hoot!
